The Reserve is situated in Lazo county (south-east of Primorye, about 250 km from Vladivostok ). Due to its peculiar relief and location, the Lazo Reserve is home to plant species of various geographical zones (e.g. taiga, tundra and even subtropical zone), 57 animal species and 319 birds. The Reserve is famous for such rare animals as Amur tiger (also known as Siberian Tiger), serow (goral) and spotted deer as well as relict yew trees. This is one of the most beautiful places in Primorye with its mountains and waterfalls, taiga forest and islands.
The Ussuriisk Nature Reserve, rich in the flora and fauna of Russia ’s Taiga, is situated near Ussuriisk, a city about 150 km from Vladivostok . Ginseng, a medicinal herb, and 17 rare plants can be seen here. 61 species of mammals inhabit the reserve, including the Amur Tiger, leopards, wild boar, bears, foxes, lynx and Manchurian deer. More than 160 bird species are found in the reserve. You will have an opportunity to see the Arboretum at the Taiga Scientific Station where you will be shown the diversity of the growing flowers, bushes and trees of the region, most of them endemic. Another option is a brief excursion to the Astronomical Center , a research institute specializing in studies of the sun.
Primorsky Region is home to six nature sanctuaries, designed to protect the unique regional flora and fauna and conserving a number of endangered animal and plant species (over 300 bird species, 1300 rare plants and 150 mammals).
